Lotus Steel COR-TEN Steel Stockholder

Cor-ten Steel, or Corten steel as it is sometimes referred, was introduced to the market in 1933. Soon after its introduction Cor-ten Steel was being used for construction equipment and other structural applications where the combined attacks of weather, water and industrial pollutants often caused carbon steel to fail.

Corten has a unique, natural oxide coating that when fully mature is dense, tightly adherent and relatively imperious to further atmospheric corrosion. Minor damage to this oxide coating heals itself therefore, maintenance particularly in bridges is greatly reduced.

Cor-ten can be seen in many city centres throughout Europe as it has proved to be an effective form of cladding for buildings. Corten is ideal for the construction industry as it is also a high strength structural steel.

The aesthetics of Corten have made it increasingly popular with town planners, architects and designers alike.

Cor-ten is one of the best known steel trade names in the world and is now commonly found in bridges, railway carriages and sculptures.

Corten is available in material grades Corten A, Corten B, Corten C and Corten D.

Corten can be easily fabricated although guidelines must be followed to ensure optimum performance.

Lotus Steels commercial team have over 50 years combined experience and can provide comprehensive technical advice. We can also advise on welding and pre-weathering procedures for corten steel.
